Firstly, if you're not yet sold on the gifts of sleep for performance and health, start here.
For the last 3 years, I've been tracking my sleep.
I use an app called Sleep Cycle (the free version has everything you need).
Every morning I wake up and check my stats – sleep score, phases, duration, regularity etc.
The funny thing is, the app isn't very accurate (particularly if you sleep with a partner).
But that doesn't matter.
What matters is tracking it.
I see the numbers every morning. It's top of mind. I want my numbers to trend in the right direction. So it forces me to think about good sleep habits.
It's been the number one thing that's improved my sleep habits.
What else do you want to improve? Can you track it?
Update: Something I’ve recently learned is the importance of when you check your data.
See to our brains, checking our sleep score is like checking social media.
We get a hit of dopamine.
And that hit (soon after waking) can start to cook the backend of our sleep.
Because over time, our brains start to expect it at a specific time.
And it can wake us up early.
📝 So wait at least an hour before checking your sleep data.
(This'll also help you gauge how you're feeling before relying on data to tell you).
